Our aim with this launch is to make the ESSENTIAL ski a benchmark for recycling in the ski industry.
We have worked very closely with our partner MTB, an expert in recycling and waste management, to create a structure with a recyclability rate 10 times higher than that of a conventional ski.
The ESSENTIAL ski increases recycling potential from around 7% to 77%.

QUALITY/DURABILITY
When developing our skis, we put each model through a series of tests to validate both quality and durability. In addition to the mandatory tests for ski development required by the standard (pull-out and stripping torque of screws on bindings), we also carry out our own tests to ensure the exceptional quality of our skis.
We measure dynamic deformation at the tip after subjecting the ski to very high flexion in this area.
We measure the force (in joules) at which the ski breaks. These tests are carried out on the waist and tail.
This test measures the force required to pull a binding off the ski.
The ski is placed in a cold chamber at a temperature of -30°C (where it is left for several hours to ensure all layers are frozen) and subjected to a series of impacts. There must be no signs of breakage.
The ski is placed in a cold chamber at a temperature of -30°C (where it is left for several hours to ensure all layers are frozen) and subjected to series of flexions over a period of 24 hours to study its structural deformation.
The ski is immersed in a tank of water for 24 hours to study its watertightness and the watertightness of its materials.

ECO-DESIGNED

A COLLECTIVE VIRTUOUS MOVEMENT
The starting point of a collective, human and committed adventure that brings mountain lovers together in concerted efforts to tackle shared environmental and social issues with the aim of preserving our playground, the mountains.
ESSENTIAL, the result of collaborative work...
Designers, material engineers, production technicians and recycling specialists work tirelessly, hand in hand, to achieve ambitious objectives and resolve design, production and market launch challenges. This work has culminated in the ESSENTIAL ski, a unique eco-designed Rossignol model with a life cycle completely integrated in a circular economy.
A ski that unites all our communities in our global and open vision of outdoor activities
Because ESSENTIAL gives us the power to act, we are inviting all mountain lovers to take even greater action at their own level. Because when each person contributes according to their means in a cooperative approach anything is possible!
This is also why we are sharing plans for the ski with all stakeholders in the mountain sector.

MANAGE END OF LIFE
FROM START TO FINISH
When you buy your ESSENTIAL skis, don’t forget to register your purchase to join the movement and obtain your proof of purchase. Join the ESSENTIAL virtuous circle! When the times comes to replace your equipment, we will recover the skis and recycle them depending on their condition: Second Hand, Second Life or recycling with the help of our partner MTB.

WHAT DO WE DO WITH THE COLLECTED SKIS?
All skis are collected at our logistics* platform in France and then sent to our factory in Sallanches. End-of-life skis are then assessed and evaluated there to decide on the next steps according to the condition of each ski:
SECOND HAND
The ski is still skiable, it will be entrusted to our experts for repair. We will donate these skis to charitable associations that promote skiing.
SECOND LIFE
The ski is no longer skiable but its condition makes it suitable for our upcycling program. It will be converted into a different object.
RECYCLING
The ski does not fall into any of the previous categories, it will be recycled to allow the materials to be reused by the appropriate subsidiaries.
*In France, skis are sent directly to our logistics platform. In Europe (outside France) and North America, skis are sent to the respective subsidiaries which then transfer them directly to our logistics platform.
