FOUR TIPS WHEN CHOOSING YOUR SNOWBOARD

1. Determine Your Level and Style of Riding

To choose a board that meets your needs, defining your style of riding is essential:

FREERIDE ALL-MOUNTAIN FREESTYLE
you spend most of your time looking for the best lines you can find. For you spending a day riding on-trail is a wasted day – you prefer powder, cliffs, speed and slashing huge turns across the mountain. you spend your time cruising the entire mountain whether on-trail, in the terrain park or venturing off the beaten path – you’re looking for absolute versatility. you spend most of your time in the terrain park perfecting the next trick. You prefer hitting jumps, grinding rails, and jibbing along the trails.

In each of these categories Rossignol Snowboards suggests boards adapted to all levels, you just have to make your choice.

2. Choose Your Board Shape

The shape of your board refers to both shape and overall flex. The board shape defines each board’s performance depending on the type of riding you use it for.

TWIN DIRECTIONAL
A Twin board shape is symmetrical in terms of shape, flex, and rocker/camber profiles. The binding inserts are centered on the board. This type of shape is best suited for freestyle-oriented riding, offering an even swing weight, and making switch riding more natural when riding the park and practicing tricks. A Directional board shape is asymmetric. The front of the board (nose) and the back of the board (tail) are different, giving the board a directional feel. Generally, the nose is longer and the binding inserts are shifted toward the tail of the board. This board shape lends itself to all-mountain riding and speed.

3. Choose Your Board Flex

First you must understand the flex scale. The board flex lies between 1 and 9; a flex close to 1 means that the board has a softer flex while 9 signifies a stiffer flex.

Softer boards offer easier maneuverability, playfulness, and forgiveness and are well suited for freestyle-oriented riding.

Stiff boards favor high-speeds, stability, and precision and are better suited for freeride and all-mountain riding.

If you’re still not sure choose something in the middle of the flex range for maximum versatility.

4. Determine Your Board Size

It’s important to choose a board adapted to your size and weight as well as your ability and style of riding. To do this simply refer to the board sizing chart.
