BASICS OF THE PHOTOGRAPHY (1/5)
By Sofia Sjöberg
I think photos are amazing. They help you remember events, vacations, everyday situations and life-changing experiences. They are a way of returning to beautiful environments and re-living special moments. That is at least what I think, my name is Sofia Sjöberg and I’m a freelance photographer and Rossignol Women ambassador from Sweden with a big passion for shooting the outdoors, skiing and lifestyle. I’ve been a photographer for a few years now and worked with clients such as Rossignol, Adobe and various ski- and surf magazines.
The best way to improve your photos is by trial-and-error.
I’ve taken a lot of photos and in time I have found out what I personally like and don’t like, what works and what does’nt. Along the way I have picked up a few tricks that I thought I would share with you! I just want to emphasize that everyone have different techniques and styles. I find it the best to learn a few and then experiment by yourself.
I have some general tips, that many before me have used, but try to find your own flavour. A large part in photography today is also photo editing, I love the post-processing part of photography but that is for another tutorial.
Before we start I suggest you Google and get comfortable with these terms; focal length, aperture, rule of thirds, RAW photos vs. JPG, basic color correction terms such as white balance, contrast, saturation and curves. These terms are essential and serves as good ground when moving forward with photography. I will not talk about how to set the focus, using servo vs. pre-focusing, picking the right shutter speed and aperture or how I use ISO. It pretty easy to Google and I think most of you already know the basics.
