On average, the ideal pole size is considered to be equal to the skier's height multiplied by 0.83 for classic cross-country skiing, and 0.89 for skate skiing.

For Nordic skiing, your pole must reach your shoulder.

For skate skiing, measure the distance from the ground to your ear; even if it seems high, it's the minimum needed to generate good thrust.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Charles Fives from Great skate poles, but order processing problem From an equipment point of view I give the Force 3 skate ski poles a 5 out of 5. Lite, just stiff enought, and a price that doesn't break the bank. I would give a better rating but the poles were shipped with only the right wrist strap. Rossignol corrected this issue by sending an new set of poles( thank you) but the second set of poles also only had one right wrist strap. Now I have two sets of poles and two right wrist straps and no left wrist strap. I do not need any more poles just a left wrist strap.
