NoK Factory, the second life of snowboards

Two years ago, two former Rossignol's employees decided to launched their own company called NoK Factory. The purpose is to give a second life to used snowboards.

NOK FACTORY

THE CONCEPT

NoK Factory was born in 2018 near Grenoble, in the French Alps. From a general point of view, its job is to upcycle sport goods. Upcycle means to give a second life to an object instead of throwing it, as is, or by modifying it.

After many years working in the Winter Sports industry, Adrien and Vincent have often faced the fact that materials used in sport goods are very hard to recycle, skis and snowboards among others.

So, they decided to build partnerships with different brands from the snowboards industry, including Rossignol, to help them reduce their wastes and give an opportunity to recycle some damaged snowboards on eco-friendly longboard and cruiser decks. For now, because they have some more ambitions and they want to develop more custom-made products for companies or individual needs.

THE TEAM

The team is composed of two persons, Adrien and Vincent. Both have been working for many years in the Snowboard Rossignol Team.

Vincent Gelin, was for 7 years Project Manager for Snowboards bindings developpement, part of the R&D department. Today, inside the NoK organization, he is: Production Manager, in charge of the Communication and he is part of the product development.

adrien reguis

Adrien Reguis, has spend 11 years working for Rossignol, first developing skis and snowboards, and then he became responsible of the Snowboard R&D department. He is now in the NoK Factory in charge of partnerships, of the commercial relations and he also participates to the product development.

AN ECO FRIENDLY DEVELOPMENT AND THE SOCIAL IMPACT

Environnemental impact reduction is one of the main purpose of this company, on their own products and their partners' ones.

- Use of 100% recycle and recyclable paper and carton, "ecolabel" varnish-free, no more platiscs in their packagings, product upcycled in France ; everything has been thought to reduct the impact on the planet.

- Recycling of their own wastes to value it, and try to reach a 0 waste goal in a close future.

- Among others, for a little bit less than two years, NoK succeed to recycle 631 damaged snowboards into skateboards, which correspond to 15 775kg of CO2 preserved.

- Partners and suppliers choices are made according their capacity to bring help to people experiencing conditions of fragility. For example, trucks and wheels are assembling by EASI, a company that employs disabled people.

- A part of their profit is given to associations that protect the mountains: POW (Protect our Winters) and Mountain Riders.

THE COLLABORATION WITH ROSSIGNOL

NoK's genesis were born between Rossignol's walls, when Vincent and Adrien were still working for the company. In 2015, they launched some brainstorming internally to find a way to upgrade non fonctionnal goods, in collaboration with the research and innovation, and RSE departement. Very quickly, the project to turn damaged snowboards into skateboards came up. When Vincent and Adrien decided to leave the company to spend more time on this project, the partnership with Rossignol sounded like an evidence. The collaboration between NoK Factory and Rossignol is still very strong, and it has became a real solution to give a second life to non conform products.

We are also linked with some ambassadors such as Marion Haerty, three times Snowboard Freeride World Champion, Ludo Guillot-Diat, competed for many years on the Freeride World Tour, and Xavier De Le Rue, legend of snowboard.
