Win of Selina Gasparin: "A really big day for Switzerland"

Riders in this news :  Selina GASPARIN

Despite the bad weather -windy and snowy- Switzerland’s Selina Gasparin claimed in Hochfilzen’s Sprint the first World Cup victory of her career. It’s also the first victory for Switzerland in biathlon! The skier from Rossignol Team ended first with one penalty ahead of Veronika Vitkova and Irina Starykh.
"It was just a normal day out there, skiing and shooting...I had a miss in the standing and then never thought about the podium. I was thinking it would not be a good position...It was a big surprise: I have always been always dreaming about a podium, maybe second or third, but I never thought about a victory. Now I am really surprised to be the winner of today's race. I thought it would be cool to have a woman take the first victory. It is an honor to be the First world Cup winner; it is a really big day for Switzerland."

KUUSAMO, RESULTS OF THE WEEK

Riders in this news :  Alexander LEGKOV  ; Eldar RØNNING  ; Teodor PETERSON

Russia’s Alexander Legkov has taken the third place in the final stage of the Ruka Triple, Eldar Roenning from Norway finishes second of 10km Classic whereas Sweden’s Teodor Petterson ends third of the Classic Sprint.

Day 3
Eldar Roenning was not at the start of the Pursuit 12,5km this Sunday so it’s Norway's Martin Johnsrud Sundby who has won the final stage of the Ruke Triple ahead of Maxim Vylehgzhanin and Alexander Legkov from Rossignol Team.
Alexander Legkov (RUS):I am happy about the third place. My shape has been good and the result today gave me confidence for the next months. Olympics are the biggest goal for me but I also hope I will be in a good shape for the Tour de Ski.
Day 2
After his second place during the 10km Classic, Eldar Roenning takes the lead of the Overall World Cup and the Ruka Triple.
Eldar Rønning (NOR) :I felt quite good and had a fast 2.0 km before the finish. It was an exciting competition. Some of the top skiers started in front, some in the middle so it was nice to watch. I have not been in the yellow bib almost seven years. Tomorrow is skating and I have no hopes to be in top 10.
Day 1
It was the first race of the season and the first podium for Teodor Peterson, Rossignol’s Sprint specialist and winner of the Sprint World Cup in 2012.
Teodor Peterson (SWE):I did hope for a podium today. I had a good summer and autumn. I hope I can carry on the good shape and have more of such good competitions like today. It would be great if I could keep a steady shape during the whole season. Hopefully it will be enough to be one of the best sprinters this season.

Martin Fourcade after his 26th victory
"I was a bit lucky. I was disappointed for Fredrik since he fell on the last lap. We both know he would have won if had not fallen. We both know that shooting clean is what you need to win; it is the best way to win! I know that Fredrik and Tim are among the best, so it was not surprise that they are here."

25th victory for Martin Fourcade
“The past few days were hard, with some criticism in the press. But my team, family and fans stood by me, which was very important to me. I am not one who worries about records or things like that, but I am quite proud of this victory. I think it was one of my best...I am exhausted and satisfied. The past few days were hard, with some criticism in the press. I did not have to answer the critics. My team, family and fans stood by me, which was very important to me. It was very nice to have the quiet with my team over the past few days. I am quite proud to give this victory back to my fans and teammates. I was on automatic pilot today. I did not think about technique or anything else. I still feel like I have more in my body...I still do not feel perfect on my skis yet."

Successful come-back for Marie-Laure Brunet (3rd)
“I never thought about winning. I tried to stay focused. Shooting was difficult because I had a little bit of wind, but I fought hard to hit four. It was like a victory after how last season ended.”
