The 2009 Freeride World Tour came to an end with an amazing fourth stage and final in Verbier (Switzerland)!
Xavier DE LE RUE is the 2009 Freeride World Champion while taking incredible victory on the mythical Bec des Rosses face! Xavier leading before the stage in Verbier, honoured his Golden Bib with an amazing run on the windblown Bec des Rosses face with 55° areas.
As the day wasn’t good enough, Xavier’s line got voted best line of the season and for the second year in the row he’s leaving tour again with a brand new Nissan.
Congratulations for your title! You ended up having a great day even though you anticipated it with stress!
" Yeah, the bec des rosses is a risky face and the snow conditions weren’t excellent, I was already crowned world champion but wanted to go for it and not take it too easy. All in all I’m pretty happy about my line, I played it safe on the higher part where the snow was inconsistent with rocks all over and I finished strong with the big cliff as well as a second one and a straight down. It’s good to see how much the riding level improved those past years, even with difficult condition the riders did a good show today and no one got hurt."
The Verbier Xtreme is the final of the FWT, how would you describe your season?
" The season went out good contest wise, first couple event on the FWT happened on smaller easier face and I scored podium with 2nd place in Sochi and 3rd in Squaw Valley. I took a break of the FWT during the Big Mountain pro and a week of freeride in Austria with excellent condition. (Xavier won that one too) Then with Tignes and Verbier I had the chance to express myself better with big mountain face. Overall the quality of the whole tour is improving, it’s crazy how much the organization stepped up from year one to year two. I’m looking forward to coming back next year. Not only the comps are better but the crew of riders is amazing, they are nice people to hang out with and we are pushing each other."
Beside the competition on the Freeride World Tour, how did you keep yourself busy this season?
" This season I had different goals in mind, one was to keep my freeride world title, others were to do couple snowboard cross to get Olympic points quota and see if I had chances over there. I was happy to get good results right away so I could focus on freeriding. My main goal for the season was to film for a second part’ in Standard Films. I spent good filming days around verbier with Jonas Emery and Henrik Windstedt. We have a good crew with Tero Repo as photographer and filmers Guido Perrini and Fred ( Henrik’s filmer).
For the rest of the season I have product development meeting with guys at Rossignol for the boards and clothing line and then I should head up to AK to film with Johan Olofson and Mike Hatchett. The season will end up in May around chamonix. Jeremy Jones will come if the conditions are good and we’ll go filming big mountain riding for his two years video project “Deeper”."

Haute Maurienne is a valley not really well known which is full of good surprises.
Part of the Rossignol Snowboard Team got the chance to enjoy it during a photo shoot for the Rooster TV. They have discovered how friendly the locals were, extra good quality snow, backcountry spots for kickers, and a park freshly reshaped for them.
Marco CONCIN, Heinz LÖHLE, Brynild VULIN, Dimitri BIAU and Thomas GERIN got lucky enough to have the park shaper guide them to the best spots. They also enjoyed the entire after ski opportunities, from the Jacuzzi of the 4 stars Alpages Residence to the bowling or the sled race by night.
To do it proper they even spotted with all the spots into their GARMIN GPS in order to share with you the best spots of Val Cenis. You’ll have to be patient and wait until next year Rooster TV webisodes to discover them. Here are few photos to make you wait…
