This summer I did alot of working at my uncles farm, I have been there the last summers. I worked as a glacier guide to the Norwegian highest mountain Galdhøpiggen before, but know I work at the farm. I do some guiding in weekends. I like working on farm, because I can work as my own boss, and the days is never the same, you do everything, working with tractor on the fields, carpentry, sometimes an mechanic, I like it alot. The money I make is for the winter to come. I have been at some Downhill biking festivals. I was at HillBilly Høkkfest, that was crazy. The worlds best bikers was there to give us an hell of a show, and the party? I cant say more, it was crazy. Here is a video from the festival: http://vimeo.com/71421817# watch it an get stoked! One of my best friends has his own biking festival. Its called Ponderosa Downhill, I went there to, but I have no videos from there, it was a blast. The summer has been good!
I did my shoulder surgery 12 of august, because I dislocate the shoulder so meny times in some years now, and I got tired of it, so I went to surgery. They did a good job. Some of my biceps muscle was ript of, and some other stuff they tited up, they did also an anchor in my shoulder, so it should not dislocate again. This fall has been very borig, I cant really do enything right know, am waiting for shoulder to get better, and progress has been good, I will get ready for the winter, and my physioterapiest is very positiv for my progress. I cant wait to ski again, do a tomahawk and get back to skiing again without thinking about my shoulder. And I will get to the gym and get strong as a bear, so I can do some big lines and cliffs. Am so ready for the winter to come!
What is new, thats I got a knew clothing sponsor, its Flylow, am quite excited for that.
Plans for the winter is not set yet, it will be some weeks in the Alps, but where, we dont know yet, but alot of skiing it will be!! I will come back with more plans soon. 102 days before the beginning of Olympics Games, you are back on your skis after your injury this last winter. Could we talk about this moment?
Yes, Finally! I'm back on ski now after 7 month of rehabilitation. After I injured myself, I just thought about one thing: Coming back on skis as soon as possible and coming back the better way I can. So i did everything I had to do for it and now it's going pretty good. For sure, there is still a lot of work to come back on my best level.
Recently you put on your freestyle skis, how do feel on it? Did you do some pipe runs?
I didn't do much pipe. Just some straight airs that's it. I was more focused about having my feelings back on skis, turns, switch etc.. I just jumped again on kicker 2 weeks ago and I'm still taking it easy. I don't want to go too fast. I just want to do everything as i feel it.
What are your goals for this season? Especially at the Olympics Games?
My only goal for now, it's to come back on my best level as soon as i can without any other injuries. For the rest, it will come when my ski will be good again.
You were present at the presentation of the French Olympic team few days ago. Could you tell us more about this special day?It was a good day, lots of people, lots of media and a lot of athletes! It's the occasion to see everyone we are not used to see during winter and to talk about what's going to happen this winter. For the details of the day, it was just the French country introducing the Olympic Athlete to the media. And then the media could get interview about everyone the wanted.
What do you think about this team? What are our chances of winning medals?
This year, I think the entire French team is strong! There is a lot of people who can get a medal. After, this is Olympics games; it's a one day race, no one can now what's going to happen.
What do you think about Jason Lamy Chapuis as the flag bearer for 2014?
I think it's great! I like this guy and I think this is the perfect one to be our "captain"!
You will go back for few months in USA, how is it going for you out there? (Accommodations, trainings, events…)
I'm not traveling alone. I'm traveling with my team: the Freeski Project with Kevin, Xavier and Thomas. We have an awesome staff crew with a coach, physio, ski tech and physical trainer. So we are just traveling all together everywhere and having fun! It will be training a lot and competing a lot too. It's going to be 2 hard month but i can't wait to go!
Obviously, what do you think about the cancellations at X games events in Europe and especially Tignes?
I think it's sad. I loved to compete in France. It was our chance to shine. But, it's done and there is nothing we can do so I'm just focused about all the other competition! Too bad is there is no more X Games but there is still other race and we'll just have to beat the other in Aspen.
Interview of two French snowkiters Pascal BOULGAKOFF & Laurent Hemard
How would you describe snowkite practice? Its spirit? Its beginning?
Snowkite or Kitesnow is a way to approach the mountain from a different angle. It is a combination between a sledging support (ski, snow, squal... whatever we want) and a kite's (a big kite). But be careful, snowkite isn't only the pactice of kitesurf on snow, it's much more! For us, the kite of is like a real personal ski tow! It takes us thanks to the wind's strength and allows us to « ride on big plateau » or on mountain's top when we are more experienced. Depending on the wind’s strength and one’s skills, it can take us across valleys, as well as over mountain tops. The snowkite's strentgh is to be ables you to go up the slopes and also to discover beautiful « freerides » which are usually only accessible for our friends hiking with skins. The only difference with them is the time spent climbing mountains.. If everything is doing fine, you can take about 10 to 15 minutes to go up 1000 meters of altitude. Skiing with a kite offers an extra factor, the joy of flight. We can go very fast on gentle slopes thanks to the wind. That is why we often move on freeride, but without risk of avalanches which is a main asset in this practice.
Basically, snowkite is backcountry skiing. We can go for a little ride that we would call “cruising”, or we can do freestyle. The most experienced snowkiters can reproduce every freestyle ski and snowboard tricks. We can do freestyle and the most experienced kiters can reproduce all tricks freestyle which are done in ski and in snowboard. If I have to talk about its spirit, I could say that it is obligations free, only fun.. We slide, we jump on flat, on gentle or steep slopes, without any break, 8 hours if we are a little sporty. Snowkite started about 20 years ago. The first tries were mostly done on flat grounds, but we quickly understood that we could move on sloping grounds.
What kind of technical equipments are required to perform snowkite? What are the best spots?
The only equipment that is really specific to this practice is the kite, which looks like a small paragliding (about 10m2) and also allows us to be completely autonomous on the snow. Unlike to this practice on water, where we can usually ask for help on the beach, we are frequently alone or separated from our friends with whom we have started the ride. After, we need good skiboots like freeride boots, and fat skis, because we only move on off-piste area. Soul 7 is the perfect product. Snowkiters use the same protections as skiers. That being said, the number of protections to wear is up to the snowkiter's decisions according to his daily practice. It could be useful to have a compass in your bag and to know how it works! There are various Spots where we can practice snowkite. The only exception for snowkiters is the forest. Otherwise, they can go wherever the wind blows and in a stable way.We need space, not too many obstacles and some wind. 15 km of wind is enough to ride, even to up hills. Each spot has a different level of accessibility. In general, beginners will prefer flat areas, as where experts will dream of high mountains... But everything depends on the region where we practice too.
What kind of competition could we find in ski-kite?
Snowkite competitions are now officially admitted by the French Federation of Free Flight. It regroups: Freestyle, Racing, Boardercross. In freestyle, we mainly judge a performance for its beauty, the tricks complexity and the rider's commitment. Another criteria is how they manipulate their kites. We do new school tricks, old school tricks, but it’s unhooked tricks (holding the kite with an extended arm only) that pay the most.In racing, departures are grouped, on circuits that sometimes can be technical. Winners are the first arrived.Long distance and inclined circuits competitions also exist, with rankings and prices at the end of the season.
What is the future of this sport discipline?
Although snowkite is a fabulous backcountry activity, which is accessible to everyone, it stays unclear and ambiguous in people’s mind.Snowkite slowly develops itself, it goes at its own pace, it stays quite marginal. It will surely not become a mass sport. But the number of kiters grew well those last years and this practice becomes more accessible thanks to the equipment. But it stays a sport which requires some learning, some analysis (weather, aerology), availability and patience if there is no enough wind to ride. Taking information from kiters and professionals who are experienced helped us to improve ourselves and having more fun quickly. Despite everything, we experienced unforgettable moments in an amazing environment, away from any danger. The image we try to broadcast has every ingredients of backcountry skiing people dream of. Snowkite is more accessible than kitesurf which is practiced on water, because it needs less traction power for the kite to perform. Therefore, learning kite in winter is a good idea, because it allows you to take on this sport softly.

Last 4th, 5th and 6th of June, freeskiers did some sightseeing. The objective for them was not to take some holidays, even after their busy season, but to visit the different factories of the Rossignol Group. An express road trip between France and Spain, with the following program:
-Visit of the logistics center of the group in Saint-Etienne de Saint-Geoirs
-Visit of the headquarters in Saint-Jean de Moirans
-Group visit of the production plant in Artès (in Spain near Barcelona).
- Little trip in Barcelona.
With these 5 bad boys’ personalities, the ambiance could not be that better! Even if they already knew each other very well, these few days all together have created a true team cohesion. El Rancho (Enak Gavaggio)took the opportunity to give some useful advice to the young guys on how to manage their professional careers.
For the production sites’ employees, it was the opportunity to interact with the pro-riders, and also to better understand their expectations in order to continuously improve the skis quality.
The freeskiers were thrilled to meet the people who are actually making their skis. It was the occasion for them to pay a special tribute to all these men and women who make their sport passion practice possible. This visit was also a way to thank those who are not in the spotlight but are however contributing to the brand awareness.
These few days of trip have permitted themselves to discover the different aspects of the ski production. It offered them a new way of looking at their Squad 7 Soul 7 or Scratch: they had the possibility to take a mould of them wearing some beautiful aprons! Another best day for our freeskiers!
