It's crazy with 30,000 people cheering for you when you come down, it's your moment. This finish definitely ranks pretty high on my list." (Quote : Fis Alpine)

First World Cup win for Gagnon

Riders in this news :  Larisa YURKIW  ; Marie-Michele GAGNON

Marie-Michele Gagnon claimed her first career World Cup win during the Super Combined in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee. It is the first ever podium in super combined and the first victory for Canada in a combined race for 30 years.
The racer from Rossignol Team has shown very good performances since the beginning of the season but she was not on the podium. Sitting 16th after the super-G, she has done a nice run in Slalom and ended first ahead of Austria’s Michaela Kirchgasser and Germany’s Maria Höfl-Riesch.
This is quite an ecstatic feeling. I’m still shaking. The first podium was really cool but a win is a win – no one else beat you. It’s incredible. It’s really special I was very surprised to win because in the super-G I did okay but I wasn’t actually that pleased. There was one place where I turned too much and got air so in the second run I knew I had to stick to my plan and do a good slalom run without any mistakes.
The 24-year-old from Lac-Etchemin counts now two podiums in World Cup after her third place in Are two years ago. She sits first in super combined, third in slalom, ninth in super-G and 16th in giant slalom.
Please also note that Larisa Yurkiw punched her ticket to the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games with a career-best sixth-place finish in Saturday’s downhill in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee.

Pietilae-Holmner on form

Riders in this news :  Maria PIETILAE-HOLMNER  ; Marie-Michele GAGNON

Maria Pietilae-Holmner has signed her 6th World Cup career podium on Sunday. She finished second of the Slalom in Bormio behind Mikaela Shiffrin and ahead of Nastasia Noens. The racer from Rossignol Team comes back on a podium in Slalom after her third place in Giant Slalom in Val d’Isère. Bronze medallist in Slalom at 2011 World Championships, it’s her 4th career podium in this discipline after her victory in Aspen in 2011 and her two second places in Levi and Aspen in 2008 and 2010.
This second place is like a victory for me. I felt like I could ski fast, I was good in training and I was fast in the last race in Lienz but I never made it down so I am super happy to have delivered today. It has been a long time since I have enjoyed being on the podium.”(Fis Alpine)
Marie-Michele Gagnon from Canada takes the 5th place and she moves up to 3rd in slalom World Cup rankings. “I’m happy with the result. It was one of those races where you have to be flexible and do whatever you can. It was half rain, half snow. I had a pretty tough time just to make it to the bottom in the second run because I was really wild but I was charging. It was pretty tough.
