After the bronze in the relay with the Finnish team last Thursday, Aino Kaisa Saarinen grabs on Friday a second medal on theses Olympics at Vancouver, by taking the 3rd place of the 30 km classical! A first individual Olympic medal for this 31 year old skier who in spite of the hard conditions (rain and difficulty of the track) succeeded in being on the podium!
In the leading group in the 20 first kilometres, Aino Kaisa lost time changing the skis and took thus the 7th position. But she found enough energy in the last kilometres to fight against her competitors and go ahead of German Elvi Sachencbacher to insure the 3rd place of this competition!
Katrin Zeller, first relay of the German team, clinched the Silver, ahead of Aino Kaisa Saarinen and Virpi Kuitunen, bronze medallists with the Finnish team!
A first Olympic medal for Katrin Zeller!
The skier from Obersdorf carried out a beautiful race today while placing her team in third place in the women’s relay, as of the first leg!
In brawl with the Finnish team on the last relay, Claudia Nystad from Germany kept the lead and offers the Silver to her team in this stage!
The Finnish girls made, as for them, a great come back. Placed in 12th position after the first relay, Virpi Kuitunen, second relay of the team, went back to the 7th place. An effective ski from Aino Kaisa Saarinen, in control for the last leg, allowed Finland to take the Bronze!
Congratulations to these 3 great champions for these new medals!
Norwegian has succeeded in overcoming the track where he fell unfortunately in the individual Sprint classical held last Wednesday in the Whistler Olympic Park. Indeed, after a 6th place on this stage, Oyestein took his revenge, yesterday, in the Team Sprint where he clinched the Gold, accompanied on the podium by his team mate Petter Northug. A nice performance for this 27 year-old champion who participated for the first time in the Olympic Games!
