After having taken the lead of the competition until the first ten kilometers, Eldar Roenning takes the silver medal in the 15 km Classical disputed today in front of a large Norwegian public came to encourage their favourite skiers.
Disappointed by the last 2009 World Championships in Liberec (where he finished 7th in this discipline) and by the Olympics at Vancouver, the 28 year-old Norwegian champion was largely satisfied with this 2nd place today.
“I was feeling good the last 3 days, that allowed me to be at 100% on the race. I had very good skis, I really could push hard but passing 10 km, I started to feel tiredness, I thought that I could try to go for the gold but I was too tired. So, I do not regret anything today, this silver medal largely fills me. The conditions are not easy, it is always hard to make the good choice of skis. Yesterday I tested seven different pairs and I still tested this morning, I really think of having made the good choice for today’s race. My skis were really good. I make my best race of the season today.”
“After Liberec where I was not in good shape and the Olympics which were a true disaster for me, this medal is really nice! In the hard moments, I always believe in myself, and when you have confidence, you can do everything! Today, I could not give more, I surpassed myself without any regret for the gold.”
