Eldar Roenning wins his first stage in Tour de Ski in Val di Fiemme, finishing in front of Alex Harvey and Dario Cologna.
The Norwegian, who finishes second at the 5 km classic race in Toblach, shows he was in a good shape at the end of the Tour de Ski : “I’m verry happy, it’s always good to have a victory on Tour de Ski, I was confident with my skis”, says Roenning in press conference.
After a few kilometres, there was a group of approximate 20 athletes who were in front. And Eldar has followed the rhythm and has made a strong race in a very hard slope but with perfect conditions: “I try to little bit tactic, just following behind and get some seconds for the arrival”
In the last lap, Eldar Roenning got a small gap to the rest of the group and shot up the last hill. He crossed the finish line first and kissed its Rossignol’s skis ! “For the overall ranking (20e), I’m a little bit disappointed but I lost to many seconds in the sprint in Oberstdorf”
In any case, this victory is very good thing in preparation for the Championships next year here in Val Di Fiemme “My main goal for the next season”, said Eldar Roenning.
Tomorrow, men will have their last stage of Tour de Ski, 9km with the final climb up Alpe Cermis.
