Kevin Rolland scores 2nd at Nippon Open Freeski

It’s been 3 seasons that the Nippon Freeskiing Open is the major freestyle event in Japan. This year it takes place in Joetsu Kokusai. A resort located about 4 hours drive from Tokyo.

Rossi’s riders, Nathan Wood (CAN), Kevin Rolland (FRA) and Xavier Bertoni (FRA) left their hometown for Japan a few days ago.

Qualifications last 2 days, Big Air semi-finals and finals started on Saturday; a 50” long table followed by a smooth 13” quarter. Not much success for Nathan, Xav and Kevin…they are not making it to the finals.

On Sunday, the real deal is on, half-pipe semi-finals and finals…our riders favorite’. As the training session goes on, you can tell riders’ disillusion. HP’s snow didn’t freeze during the night and the shape is dashed as the riders complete their warm up. It’s quite a shame for such a major venue.

Kevin gets the 2nd place
after winning Nippon Open’ semi-finals, he’s right after AJ Kemppainen, this season’s winner. A pretty good result even if we got used to gold…
Nathan Wood rocked with great runs and got the 4th place. Bad hair day for our X-Games XIII winner, judges threw him to the 6th place. Xavier really owned the pipe and should’ve got more…

Japan is still on, on Thursday starts in Inawashiro HP’ World-Cup…See you there.
