First World Cup win for Gagnon

Marie-Michele Gagnon claimed her first career World Cup win during the Super Combined in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee. It is the first ever podium in super combined and the first victory for Canada in a combined race for 30 years.
The racer from Rossignol Team has shown very good performances since the beginning of the season but she was not on the podium. Sitting 16th after the super-G, she has done a nice run in Slalom and ended first ahead of Austria’s Michaela Kirchgasser and Germany’s Maria Höfl-Riesch.
This is quite an ecstatic feeling. I’m still shaking. The first podium was really cool but a win is a win – no one else beat you. It’s incredible. It’s really special I was very surprised to win because in the super-G I did okay but I wasn’t actually that pleased. There was one place where I turned too much and got air so in the second run I knew I had to stick to my plan and do a good slalom run without any mistakes.
The 24-year-old from Lac-Etchemin counts now two podiums in World Cup after her third place in Are two years ago. She sits first in super combined, third in slalom, ninth in super-G and 16th in giant slalom.
Please also note that Larisa Yurkiw punched her ticket to the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games with a career-best sixth-place finish in Saturday’s downhill in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee.
