Osborne-Paradis so close

Riders in this news :  Jan HUDEC  ; Lara GUT  ; Manuel OSBORNE-PARADIS

Manuel Osborne-Paradis finishes fourth of the Downhill in Kvitfjell, Norway. With the bib number one, he realized a strong run in windy conditions. Unfortunately for him, the racer of Team Rossignol ends just 0.01 seconds back of third place. But it’s a satisfaction for the Canadian who comes back from an injury and who has known here in Norway two podiums in 2009, one victory in downhill and a third place in Super G.

I’m happy with my result. I’ve been fourth before but never one one-hundredth out. It sucks but that’s racing – the clock never lies. Being fourth is just one of those things. It was close but really, I’m five-tenths away from first. I desperately wanted a top 10 and when I came through the finish I was pretty happy with the run. I didn’t necessarily think it was a winning run but you never know until the end. On days like today it’s anybody’s race. I’m top 15 in the standings again and back in with the big boys. This is still a baby step. We’ve had two terrible races in a row and now we have two guys doing well but we need to keep reality in check. We’ve got three more races this season and we need to push hard. There’s no real reason to celebrate our results today. We need to build on this.

Adrien Théaux wins the race ahead of Aksel Lund Svindal, who leads the overall downhill World Cup standings, and Klaus Kroell. Osborne-Paradis’s teammate, Jan Hudec finishes 6th. In Garmisch-Partenkirchen, in the ladies downhill, the victory is for Tina Maze ahead of Laurenne Ross and Maria Hoefl-Riesch. Member of Team Rossignol, Lara Gut ends 4th. It’s the third time here in Germany that she ranks at this place after her two 4th places in 2011 World Championships!

GOOD RESULTS FOR TEAM ROSSIGNOL IN JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Junior World Championships are now over in Quebec. Team Rossignol comes back with 9 medals and especially one title of Junior World Champion for Jennifer Piot in Downhill. The French race wins ahead of Austrian’s Stephanie Venier and her teammate of Team Dynastar, Romane Miradoli. 10th of the Super G, Jenni Piot was very happy of her victory: “Contact is filled! I don’t believe it. I was very disappointed after the Super G. I’m now very happy because it’s not easy to win a title like this!

In the combined ranking (downhill + Giant Slalom + Slalom), Henrik Kristoffersen (NOR) wins the gold medal like Ragnhild Mowinckel (NOR) also silver medallist in Giant Slalom. Adeline Baud, third of the slalom at the beginning of the Junior World Championships, takes the bronze medal.

For the men, Slovak’s Zan Kranjec goes up the third step of the podium in Giant Slalom like the last year in Roccaraso. He has taken two bronze medals in Giant Slalom and in Combined. In Slalom, Ramon Zenhäusern becomes silver medallist behind Austrian’s Manuel Feller and ahead of Santeri Paloniemi from Finland. “It’s incredible. I’m happy of my race because the conditions were difficults. We were a lot to claim a podium after the first run. I gave all, I took risks and it worked! This medal confirms my good shape and my good results this season”, explained the Swiss racer.

MMA'S RESPONSE

Riders in this news :  Marie MARCHAND-ARVIER  ; Marion ROLLAND

After her huge disappointment in Schladming with two 14th places in Super G and Downhill, Marie Marchand-Arvier has reacted this week-end in Meribel. Following a strong run on the “Roc de Fer” Downhill piste, the skier of les Contamines finished third and missed the 2nd place for a mere 0.01 seconds. Carolina Ruiz Castillo wins the first race of her career ahead of Maria Hoefl-Riesch.

Marie Marchand-Arvier signs her fifth career podium in World Cup and was very happy to be back on the top: “The piste was like a boulevard, so well prepared and so much fun to ski on. The last 2 months have been difficult for me. Being back on the podium is a relief and gives me a lot of motivation for the rest of the season. The ambition is back. I remember now why I get up every day to train so hard. I’m also so happy to see my friend and now team mate Carolina to get her first career victory.

Marion Rolland, Downhill World Champion in Schladming, finishes 10th.
