Riders in this news : Federica BRIGNONE
Federica Brignone finishes second of the giant slalom in Are. It’s the third podium of the Italian skier after Lienz (2nd) and Kranjska Gora (2nd). Tessa Worley ends 4th after a disappointing week-end in Ofterschwang last week.
“This morning I just tried to feel something good, because the last few races I wasn’t good, I did three shitty races, I fell three times this year. After three races I was coming to the finish, every time I was bad. I didn’t understand what I did. Today I felt good. I crossed the finish. The feeling was good. To be back on the podium is really cool”, said Brignone after the race. (source: fisalpine.com)
Team Rossignol realizes a huge performance in giant slalom with 3 athletes on the podium!
Henrik Kristoffersen (NOR), gold: “Being Norwegian, I'm used to these kind of conditions. I have trained a lot in strong wind, shitty snow and low visibility, but I don't care about that when I race, all I think about is racing. Before the start today, I was looking forward to ski, and didn't feel nervous at all. Obviously the great Norwegian performance down here has given me even more motivation to ski well, and I wanted to be as good as the others have been. I didn't really have any expectations about a podium in gs, but I surely never start a race without thinking that I want to win this".
Thomas Dressen (GER), silver: “It was a great run for me, where I didn't do any major mistakes. Fortunately I had an early start, as the course got worse, but I'm super excited about a silver medal. Before the best racers came down, I had no expectations to be on the podium, but this is part of the game, and I almost can't believe it".
Zan Kranjec (SLO), bronze: “Being on the podium in the my first Junior World Ski Championships feels great. On Monday I was on the podium with my team, but winning an individual medal means a lot to me. The second run was hard, but I just went for it, and it worked".

The third individual race of the Junior World Championships was a Super G for the ladies. And Ragnhild Mowinckel (Rossignol) is still up to the podium. After his title of World Champion in Giant Slalom, the Norwegian ends third. Annie Winquist (Dynastar) wins the race follow by Joana Haehlen.
Ragnhild Mowinckel (NOR), bronze: “I'm super stoked right now. The conditions were great, and I loved the course. I would never had dreamt about such a triumph in the Junior World Championships, but we are a really strong team right now. Winning bronze in super g is simply great, now we need to go all in in downhill as well". (source: fisalpine.com)
Riders in this news : Resi STIEGLER
Erin Mielzynskitook away the slalom of Ofterschwang on Sunday! Fifth of the first leg, the Canadian created the surprise. Her best result in the World Cup being two 13th places in Arber-Zwiesel and Courchevel in 2011. The young skier is the first Canadian to gain a victory in this discipline since 1971!
“I knew today would be a special day because the snow was so different. The hill was prepared very, very well. Today has been surreal. I’ve struggled a bit on the way, especially with my confidence to find who I am as a skier. I came into today and I believed. I just tried to ski like I do in training. It’s an amazing day, I don’t have words to describe it yet … maybe tonight the words will come”, said Erin after the race.
Other surprise on the second step: the presence of Resi Stiegler who signs the first podium of her career! The protected of Julia Mancuso and Lindsey Vonn made a huge performance on the German slope with her number 35. She had signed a 4th place in Are in 2006 and in Reiteralm in 2007 before injuring herself seriously.
“I have to say thanks to my whole team. They’ve always been there for me for all my years of being down. I had a good day yesterday – it was my first second run since my crash in 2007. I’ve had nine or 10 surgeries since then. Coming back and trying to ski, everyone keeps getting faster you just don’t know if it’s gonna happen sometimes. But today gave me a lot of hope”, explained Resi.
Both skiers of the Team Rossignol end before Marlies Schild who is already assured to take away the small globe of the slalom. Note Marie- Michele Gagnon's excellent 5th place, the best result of her career in slalom.
Team Rossignol is in very good shape! Due to the exceptional warm weather, the race takes place on two days. This size did not disturb our athletes. Fourth on Friday during the first run, Ragnhild Mowinckel wins the giant slalom! The Norwegian, who begins to tace in World Cup this season, gains the upper hand on the Swede Sara Hector and the Frenchwoman Adeline Baud (Rossignol). The skier of les Gets, 3rd in European Cup of giant in Paganella few days ago, showed her potential. The Norwegian Kristine Gjelsten Haugen (4e) ends in a hundredth of the podium!
Ragnhild Mowinckel (NOR), gold:“I really do not know what say right now. I was seven after the first run yesterday and I simply cannot believe I won the giant! I was aiming for top 5, but thought top 10 would be good as well. Being on the top of the podium is seriously cool, I'm so happy!”
Adeline Baud (FRA), bronze: “I was not pleased with my 8th position yesterday as I know I can ski better than that. I felt good before the race today, and things went smooth for me. It was really tight though, and I'm super happy that I managed to finish third and not fourth”.
After three days of race, Rossignol’s athletes count already four medals! To be continued!
