SOLDEU / GIANT SLALOM : Second season win for Tessa Worley

Rossignol’s Tessa Worley beat the wind and her toughest opponents on Sunday to win her second World Cup giant slalom in succession. The Frenchwoman, who already dominated the rest of the field three weeks ago in Kranjska Gora, took the lead in the morning run and clung to first place in the afternoon to finish ahead of Slovenia’s Tina Maze while Germany’s Maria Höfl- Riesch came in 3rd .
The second leg had to be shortened by eleven gates because of the violent gusts of wind which had already forced the cancellation of a giant slalom on Friday and hampered Saturday's slalom.
Worley, the bronze medalist in that specialty last year at the FIS Worlds at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, fought hard to successfully defend her lead in those conditions and beat the reigning World Champion Tina Maze who reached her first giant slalom podium this season.
"There were lots of French people here and I really wanted to do well. It was nice skiing," said Worley, always at ease in difficult conditions. "I just decided not to think about the wind and it paid off."
Worley's seventh World Cup victory allowed her to seize the lead in the discipline's World Cup, twenty points ahead of Germany's Viktoria Rebensburg, the 2010 Olympic Champion who skied out in the first run. She hopes now to be more successful than a year ago when she lost the globe in the last weeks to Rebensburg because of a series of misfortunes during her last races.
“It was tough but I rather ski by those conditions than on an easy course, I knew coming here it was a good slope for me as it is very challenging, so I was happy to ski at my usual level. It surely was difficult to keep being fast in the second run even though I was in the lead in the first run. I didn’t want to leave time to anybody, I just wanted to get down as fast as possible,” she added.
“I’m very happy as my parents are here too as well as a lots of friends. There is a great atmosphere around here, many people encouraged me. I felt almost in France so it was nearly a home run for me. I can share this with everyone. A huge crowd was calling my name while I skied down, so the feeling was quite exciting. Each skier enjoys winning on home soil. It was nearly the case for me here today.”
Only a few French racers were able to clinch the giant slalom World Cup title since 1967 – the last one was Carole Merle in 1983. It’s about time for Tessa to close that gap.

Frida Hansdottersigned the second place of Soldeu’s slalom in Andorra. Third of the first leg drawn by her coach, the Swede made an applied second run in spite of gusts of wind. She ends behind Marlies Schild but in front of another Austrian Kathrin Zettel. It is the second podium of her career after her 2nd place in 2009 in Ofterschwang. Frida Hansdotter raises henceforth to the 7th place of the ranking of the speciality.
Christof Innerhofer extends his adventure with Rossignol !

Christof Innerhofer has been attached to Rossignol since his early days and has decided to extend his association with the company until 2014.
With three medals at the Garmisch-Partenkirchen World Championships in 2011, the Italian has truly reached the summit. The extension shows his desire to maintain his place at the highest level with Rossignol.
Christof Innerhofer:"I really feel like I am part of a big family with Rossignol, I get on really well with everybody. What I really appreciate is that the company believes in me and puts its faith in me whatever happens, giving me the best possible material. I am also counting on the end of this season to show that I can do great things."
With an eye on the next Worlds in 2013 in Schladming and the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Rossignol Group is delighted that Christof Innerhofer has once again committed himself to the company, and wishes him all the best for the coming years.

Didier Defago (6e) :“I did not expect necessarily a performance as this one in super combined. In downhill, I showed correct things but Romed Baumann really made the difference. I am satisfied with my slalom, I made a clean run. I almost want to say that I went there without thinking too much even if in a slalom drawn by Ante Kostelic it is necessary to think a little! I had the feeling that I did not much have to lose. I have to use it for the next race. I waited a little more of this weekend in particular in downhill but that pleases me all the same to make a result like that today.”
Christof Innerhofer (10e) :“My feeling in downhill wasn’t good. In slalom, it was not bad, it was better than the last in Kitzbühel. I made a good start but in the arrival it was complicated because of the light. I skied in the dark ! When you look the podium, I think I would be better. My week-end was not very good, I feel tired. During the three downhills the snow was very cold and aggressive. I had to learn a lot. Now, we are going to Sochi, it’s a new place, it’s really interesting. I hope the conditions will be good.”
Brice Roger (20e) :“I really made a good run in slalom. I ski well on the top and later I too much assured. I wanted to cross the finish line and mark points in the World Cup. I do not know exactly what did not work in downhill. I like this slope especially that I had participated in my first World cup here last year. And during these four days, it was complicated. But it is positive. I take experience. Now I’m going to Sochi, I think that it is a good thing for the next Olympics Games”
