After winning three medals at the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Christof Innerhofer was one of the favourites of the downhill this weekend. He crossed the finish line first on the Kandahar slope and signs his third victory in downhill this season. Two Austrians complete the podium: Georg Streitberger (+0.12) and Klaus Kroell (+0.16).

This morning on the training run I was far from fast. I was thinking how it would be impossible to win by going that slow in the top section. I tried not to think about it and to focus on the race, I knew the steep part is where I can do my best and I knew that’s where I needed to make up the time I might have lost at the top. On the last jump I felt confident that I had a good run but I really had no idea it would be fast enough for a victory. I struggled a lot during the preparation period, to think I won three times after not being sure if I would even be here this season is something very special. All I want to keep thinking about is how to keep this momentum and get faster every race”, said the Rossignol’s racer after the race.

The Italian is now third of the Downhill World Cup ranking with 344 points. Aksel Lund Svindal leads with 359 points and Dominik Paris is 2nd with 349 points. All is playable for the end of the season! There are still two downhills, one in Kvitfjell and one during the finals in Lenzerheide.

Please note the huge performance of Maxence Muzaton from Team Rossignol too. With the bib 50, the French racer ends 13th, his best career result in World Cup!
